Our aim at Carmen’s Place is to transform these young lives from the chaos and brutality of performing sexual acts for money, food or shelter and living in the streets, to stable adults contributing to society with a self-reliance that meets the best of each individual’s abilities, free of shame.
Father Braxton’s vision for the future of Carmen’s place is a strong one. He would like to offer the residents of Carmen’s, as well as other at-risk youth in the neighborhood, a list of services that would encourage them to stay off the streets.
Offering a nurse practitioner, psychologist and social worker to meet with the residents and drop-in program members a few times a week to assist the residents with medical questions and concerns, write prescriptions as well as supervise medication
compliance schedules. We can improve the quality of life for our neighbors by moving young people away from the streets, drugs, and crime.
All forms of additional support (financial, volunteers, other resources and assistance) are still needed. Anyone who is interested in helping is encouraged to do so! We are in desperate need of volunteer mentors and funds to support our program. We have many mouths to feed. Blankets and sheets are at a premium in this situation. Our wish list includes: help with our $1000 monthly food bill, twin size bed linen, towels, pillows, a dishwasher, a washing machine and a dryer
Many of the residents haven’t completed High School or received their GED. Carmen’s would like to offer a tutor to come in and help assist the residents with achieving that goal. Most importantly there is a need for vocational training to move from dependence to independence.
