Carmen’s Place is greatly in need of donations of food, other goods and money.
Below is a partial list of donation needs, in Some cases, donations of food , clothing and equipment, in other cases donations of money with which to buy needed things
1) $4 for a pair of cotton socks. The residents run through socks rapidly. During a 12 month period, Father Braxton estimates that the residents need
2) 500 pair or $2,000 worth of socks.
3) $20 for a month’s supply of razor blades for all residents.
4) $30 for a gift certificate to Payless for one pair of shoes.
5) $40 for medicines for all residents for one month, such things as antibiotics.
6) $50 to pay for a week’s worth of laundry wash at the local Laundromat for all residents plus the “house” laundry such as kitchen towels.
7) $50 for meat (ground beef or chicken) for all residents for one week.
8) $60 for 14 gallons of milk, enough milk for all residents for one week..
9) $100 for one used laptop computer in good condition. The shelter needs two or three of them.
10) $100 for a metal storage locker. Each resident needs one. It would be great to be able to purchase 10 of them.
11) $125 for a student edition of the Microsoft word software.
12) $200 for a used desk top computer in good condition with updated software installed. The shelter needs two of them.
13) $200 for a small freezer so that larger quantities of frozen food can be purchased at cheaper bulk rates.
14) $240 for the purchase of a weekly metro card for each resident.
15) $233 will pay for all expenses of one resident for a week, $932 all expenses for one month and $11,184 for one year.
16) $250 for a new portable dishwasher on wheels so that it can be moved out of the way when it is not being used.
17) $400 for 20 hygienic mattress covers at $20 each.
18) $600 for a 60 towels (two towels per resident) supply for one year. $10 per towel.
19) $800 to pay for four fumigations per year ($200 per time) to prevent bed bugs and cockroaches from entering the shelter.
20) $1,000 for food for all residents for one month.
21) $3,000 shelter rent for one month. $36,000 for one year.
22) $36,000 for a new 15 passenger outreach van, plus one year’s insurance and fuel.
23) $1,500,000 to purchase and renovate (sprinkler system, fire escape, etc.) a three story attached house in Queens, this to become the permanent new home for Carmen’s Place.
